A Rainy Day in Fingle Woods, Dartmoor by David Anderson

A Rainy Day in Fingle Woods

Posted in Dartmoor

With rain and strong winds forecast, I headed to Fingle Woods on Dartmoor National Park for a walk with my camera. I didn’t have any real photographic goals, other than to try to scout out compositions for future endeavours. Fingle Woods is a popular walking spot for good reason. It is beautiful there all year around. I was surprised to see just how green everything was. Normally by now the valley is in the strong grips of autumn, with the colours to match. It is likely that any autumnal colour may be fleeting with the current spate of weather.

With a combination of the weather and it being a weekday, the woods were very quiet. Walking along the riverbank and woodland paths with hardly a soul around is wonderful. I didn’t get my camera out for ages, content to enjoy my surroundings. The smell of the forest combined with sounds of the river, the trees in the wind and the raindrops are really relaxing.

A moody woodland scene

West along the River Teign I kept spotting compositions that centred on the dirt track. In this photo I love the scene. I like the woodland and the old stone wall that form the scene around the path. I think the puddles, smattering of leaves and motion in most of the vegetation really represent the mood of the day. In my mind this image just had to be black and white.
