At dawn, looking across Loch Loyne the scene was peaceful. The low light meant that the auto ISO on my G7X was quite high. However, the noise adds to the mood of the shot. I rarely use noise reduction on my images nowadays. A lot of it is because of the advance in camera technology, but some of it is just me getting comfortable with noise. I have realised that sharpness and noise are inconsequential. The real goal is to be able to transport yourself mentally back to that scene, or for others to experience similar when they look. I think tighter, more intimate compositions allow more to the imagination. I wonder if that means that more people can relate to it because the ambiguity leaves room for mental projection of a viewer’s own feelings onto the image.
