Northam Burrows is always a pleasant place to walk. The Burrows shield one side of the estuary from the sea, while the other is shielded by the Braunton Burrows. The Northam side is much flatter than the Braunton side. However, it is still a beautiful walk, with views of the river, and beaches lined by pebbles, dunes, and marram grass. On the river side of the burrows there is a wonderful salt marsh.
On this walk, it was sad to see evidence of coastal erosion. Chunks of sand bound by marram grass were dislodged from the land. While nowhere near as dramatic as seeing houses disappear into the ocean on TV it is still sobering.
