On the shore of Loch Glascarnoch in the North West of Scotland I found this tree. Barely holding on to life from some of its lower branches, I was instantly drawn to it. I knew right away that I wanted to photograph it for one of my compositions of the day. The weather was changeable, and the high wind meant that the clouds mottled the landscape with dark patches that rushed across the landscape. I like how the sun is shining on the shore that I was on, yet Meall an Torcain across the loch is dark and almost foreboding. It adds to the mood of the scene and accentuates the tree. I also like how leaves show the motion of the wind.
I’d like to revisit this loch when the water level is much higher as I’d imagine the tree would be much closer to the water’s edge then. On my travels around Scotland this time I could definitely see that the water levels are quite low; evidence of the weather that has affected the UK this year.
